Made famous by the cult film, Pulp Fiction, Misirlou has never been credited with an definite composer. It was born out of Greek music, later adopted by guitarist Dick Dale, and now finds itself at the hands of youtube hit, pARTyzant. With his 13 year old son playing the pencils, he finds an interesting new way to play this piece. More from his youtube channel below, as well as Dick Dale’s take on it.

About Lawrence,

Lawrence Yang wrestles with informational abstractions by day and paints by night. Influenced by graffiti art and traditional Chinese painting, he employs ink, marker, and watercolor, as the permanence of this media adds a sense of immediacy to his work. Lawrence’s paintings make use of color to communicate atmosphere and emotion, and they are concerned primarily with creating order out of chaos (and vice versa). Lawrence once ate an entire bag of Fun Size Three Musketeers™. He lives in San Francisco with his imaginary pets, Cholo and Binky.

About the designer, Matt McKinney.

Matt graduated from the internationally renowned University of Spurtnip in 1968 with a first class degree in T-Shirt Science & Philosophy.

From this point onwards it would be his dream to create his own online tshirt shop. Strange you might think but he was such an enigma that he had already ‘realised’ the potential of the internet way back in ‘68 before it even existed. However, it wasn’t all plain sailing. He was soon to fall in with a bad hippy crowd and spent the next 30 years of his life in the wilderness listening to Crosby, Stills and Nash records and eating Coco Pops.

In 2007 after several years in rehab he finally got his shit together and joined his long time pal Harry and launched the Origin68 brand.

More of his shirts, here.

Design student Erin Fong is the mastermind behind the Nova DSLR concept. After noting the different ways and positions people hold their cameras, she pondered if there was a better form factor than the defacto rectangular body. Several design sketches later, the Nova’s unique V shaped concept was formed.

Sometimes, the simplest ideas are the best ones you can have. Designers Ryan Yoon & Harc Lee have turned one of the most recognisable objects on the planet into a thing of beauty. Branded as an eco-friendly canned drink, Harc’s solution opts to press the logo directly into the aluminum, instead of spraying layer upon layer of coloured paint. The advantages are obvious; less polution from the toxic paint, less energy required to manufacture the can, less problems to recycle the aluminum. Best of all, it provides the world with a stylish and modern consumer beverage.

View their other works here.

What do you think of the colourless coke can? What other brands could benefit from reduced simplicity?

About the artist, Peter Root:

On graduating from the Fine Art BA Hons at University College Falmouth in 2000, my work was initially very much about highly repetitive techniques and algorithmic procedures applied to restricted units such as lines on a page or pieces of metal (see the Transformer series on my website).

In 2001 I spent ten weeks at the Chitraniketan Artist Residency in Kerala, South India and exhibited the resulting work in an exhibition titled ‘Nearly Everything’ at a gallery in Thiruvananthapuram (see Under-Construction on my website). Prior to and since returning to Guernsey I have traveled extensively throughout South America and Asia.

My work experience includes a variety of professions such as architecture, contemporary media production and education. These jobs have always been very supportive of my life as an artist and have all had a massive impact on the type of artwork I create. Architecture has always been an influence on my work; this can be seen in my use of architectonic models (both digital and physical) and technical drawing skills.
