Inspiration: Sleepbox

01

This little beauty is the brain-child of Russian design firm, Arch Group. Dubbed SLEEPBOX, it hopes to ease the strains of modern travelling. It’s a picture that many of us have faced before; strangers in a foreign land with no friends, no ability to speak the local language and worst of all, no accommodation for the night. Even if you do decide to sleep at the airport, there are still a million things for you to worry about. Putting aside who might have sat, thrown up or defecated in that seat of yours, it’s still pretty difficult to keep an eye on your luggage as you try to get forty winks. That there was the inspiration behind Sleepbox.

It’s primary design function is to allow a traveller to sleep peacefully, knowing that both himself and his luggage are safe. No more worrying about lost or stolen luggage, no more worrying about the next super-pandemic germ going about. Complete and perfect comfort in a safe, hygienic box.

Payment is made at a centralised terminal and a Sleepbox can be booked from anywhere from 15 minutes to several hours. Which is great if you’re there for a just a stopover, or even if you plan to stay a night.

Put together, Sleepbox measures 2.0m by 1.4m by 2.3m. It’s centre piece is the 2 metre bed, which, equipped with an automatic bed linen changer, is both comfortable and hygenic. Made out of foamed polymer, the mattress boasts a surface of pulp tissue. Tape is rewound from one shaft to another, and at a switch of a button, can be wound to replace the linen. Sleepbox also has it’s own ventilation system, security alarms, a built-in LCD TV, power sockets, and as always, a wireless connection.

When a client exits the box, Sleepbox automatically changes the bedlinen and engages a quartz lamp, sterilising the room.

02Sleepbox could be useful at a variety of locations
- Railway stations
- Airports
- Expo centres
- Public and shopping centres
- Accommodation facilities

In warmer countries, (not too warm, like in Singapore), Sleepbox could be used on the streets. It is perfect for anyone who needs cheap accommodation in an emergency or even for someone who just needs to spend a few hours with their baggage.
